Christmas and Peace?

Can We Achieve Peace At Christmas,or Throughout The Year?

Luke 2:13-14

And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying:

“Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!”

How can a person have peace? How can the world achieve peace?

This season many of our military personnel are returning home from the war in Iraq, which is so awesome, but the Iraq they leave is still broken, at war and deeply divided!

No! Not because of the gallant effort of our brave soldiers but because man’s heart is still not at peace with God!

Today, christmas 2011, at a mall, people were fighting to get a new Nikki Shoes.

The real and lasting peace comes only through Jesus Christ, God’s only Son!

Through his birth, life, death and resurrection we can experienced true peace!

Most of all it was his shed blood on the cross that gave us a chance for peace!

Colossians 1:20

“And by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross.”

Peace, everlasting peace comes only through repenting of your sin and inviting Jesus into your heart!

Dear friend, how do we need peace today! There are so many precious people in our world that are depressed, discouraged and despondent! Maybe because they are at war within themselves, family, or friends Hungry and no place to go! No money to buy gifts.

This season is about you and I believe that God’s love for you. He cares for you!

Trust Him today and watch Him work wonder working miracles in your life today!

Have a merry Christmas and a great year ahead.

Love,

Eddie

A King,A baby and Us!

A King, a Baby and Us!

I remember when I lived in Jamaica, W.I in the sixties, that the King and Queen of England would come and visit this rich, beautiful island, in the Caribbean Sea

The little island would go all out to decorate and create an atmosphere of pomp and glory. It was a sight to see, all the British flags waving in the wind, the people all dressed up, and very excited. We all lined the streets waiting for their arrival. Then with the sound of the loud motorcade with police officers, all dressed in white, coming down the street, perfectly lined up in rows, people pressing and shouting,” The Queen and King are coming!” What a feeling of pride and joy.

My family and I were standing in the front of the row, lined with all of the excited people! Then, I saw the Royal couple in an open car waving to all of us, suddenly it magically happened, the Queen as she passed us turned around and directly looked at me, smiled and waved! Wow!  I have never felt so much pride and joy.

So, where are royalty born?  Royalty are born in a castle, in royal clothes and with all the royal glory!

That what you expect of a royal birth,

Not baby Jesus though. Jesus was born from the line of King David of Jerusalem and one would expect a Royal Birth.

Jesus was born as a King but not in a castle. He was born in a stable, in a manger filled with animals and the smell of manure.

Luke 2:4 -12

“And this will be a sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.”

The stable

I am so glad he was not born

  In some rich place bed

I am so glad to know it was

  A lowly place instead,

A place where soft eyes cows and sheep

  Were sheltered and fed.

For the country born of earth

   A stable will ever be

A wholesome place, where night comes           down

 With its tranquility

A place of heart ease and content

For all who choose to see.

And so I like to think of him,

 First opening His eyes

In a good elemental place

 Beneath the empty skies,

That the men of fields could find Him

   There,

As well as the great and wise

-     Grace Newell Crowell

Dear friends, the King, which is the baby Jesus, was born in humility, for us!

He was born for us, died for us and rose again for us!

Come to Jesus today!

The Hottest Gift This Season!

The Hottest Gift of the Season

Luke 2:11 “For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord.”

What each one did

In a rude stable cold, the friendly beast the story told:

“I,” said the donkey, shaggy and brown

“Carried his mother up a hill and down,

Carried her safety top Bethlehem tow.”

“I, said the cow all white and red,

“Gave him my manager for his bed, gave him my hay to pillow hid head.”

“I, “said the sheep, with the curly horn, “Gave him wool for his blanket warm; He wore my coat on Christmas morn.”

“I,” said the camel all yellow and black “Over the desert, upon my back. Brought Him a gift in the wise man pack.”

“I. “said the dove,” From m rafter high, cod Him to sleep that he should not cry,

WE cood Him to sleep my mate and a me.” And every beast, by some good spell. In, the stable darkness. Was able to tell of the gifts he gave to Emmanuel.

THE War On Christ/mas!

The War on Christ/mas!

Text: Matthew 2:1-22

Is there a war on Christ/mas (Christmas)? Is the secular, humanistic society in America against Christ/mas?

This week, today the sixtieth of December, in the year of our Lord, Jesus, twenty eleven there is a school in a city of California that has banned a flower called poinsettia. Why, because it’s red and it offends people!

Today we call Christmas break, winter break! There is a war on the words we say, like merry Christmas.

In Genesis to Revelations, Satan has declared war on God. In Matthew chapter 2 from verses 1 -22”When Herd the king heard this he was troubled, and all of Jerusalem with him.”

Verse sixteen, “Then Herod when he saw that he was deceived by the wise men ,was exceedingly angry ;and he sent forth and put to death all the male children who were born in Bethlehem and in all the districts ,from two years and under according to the time which he had determined from the wise men.”

But God provide provision and protection for baby Jesus! Herod died and Jesus lives! Verse 19-23

Herod rots in his grave but the tomb is empty. There is a hymn, “Up from the grave he arose with a mighty triumph over his foes…..”

The world can say that there is no God, no Jesus. They can ban all they want. Jesus did live, died and arose from the dead and him still lives and reigns in our hearts! There is something about that name, Jesus! Jesus! The Son of God!

Christmas will always live in our hearts!

I believe that there is a war on Christmas, because Christmas reminds people that that people need the Lord.  Humanism on the other hand believes that you do not need God and they can live life on their own.

Christ/mas mean more of Christ!

Dear friends God loves you so very much that he sent a new, pure, sinless baby to be our Saviour! That we who are born sinners can have a Saviour!

Merry Christmas! To all and to all good night! Come to Jesus today!

Love,

Eddie

The Long Wait!

The Long Wait

And sleekest thou great things for thyself? Seek they not, behold, I will bring evil upon all flesh, the Lord: but thy life will I give unto thee for a prey in all places wither thou guest. (Jer. 45:5)

Have you ever been in a hospital emergency waiting room?

Waiting and waiting for the doctor, the test, exams or the results. It seems like a life time of eternity.

Last week we had to wait in the emergency room, first for my wife, whom thank God is ok, then for my grandson, whom is ok also and then, this week we had to wait for our new grandbaby being born to my son and daughter–in-law, Justin and Erika Smatt.

Waiting on the Lord for His guidance and protection can be long and arduous but in the end it all turns out for His best.

Today, dear friend, if you are waiting for something and your heart feels like fainting, don’t give up, trust God for his protection and provision keep trusting God. I know it can be trying and very emotional when we have to wait for any results but God loves you and He cares. So, when you have to wait, just keep trusting in God!

“Though he slay me, yet I trust him” (Job 13:15)

“For I know whom I have believed” (2

Tim.1; 12)

Caught Between a Rock and a Hard Place?

Caught Between a Rock and a Hard Place?

Have you ever been caught between a rock and a hard place? A decision that was tough but you had to make the call.

“Under hopeless circumstances he hopefully believed.” Romans 4:18

Abraham was promised by God to be the father of nations. Abraham in course of his life made decisions that seemed impossible but they became possible. What caused him to face the uncertainty of his future? I believe it was his faith and trust in the Lord thy God.

There have been times in my life that I had been caught between a rock and a hard place but there is one in particular, which has come to my mind. In nineteen seventy-one, I was a student at Orlando Junior College in Orlando, Florida and also I was president of a chapter of a Christian organization, which entitled me to be on the student government. The school was closing its doors and many of the students were upset. The administration had issued a warning, anybody caught destroying school property would be expelled.

One Sunday, on a crisp, fall morning, in the school cafeteria some of the basketball players came in and just trashed the place.

They were reported and after an investigation, the students were expelled. I happened, to be on the student judiciary committee that voted to expel them.

That afternoon, word came to me that the basketball players were waiting to hurt me.

As I was approaching my dormitory, around six tall, well-built basketball players surrounded me and angrily yelled dirty, vile words at me and threaten my life.

Amidst the hostility, I felt the presence of God! Then, suddenly, a tall young man shouted out to them,

“Hey fellows, do not hurt Eddie! We deserve the punishment, because we broke the rules and he just reported what he saw.”

They left hurriedly and angrily! God provided deliverance.

The story does not end here though, many years had passed, and my wife and I were in Orlando, Florida visiting her parents. While we were there, we decided to go to the mall. Upon entering the mall, we found that it was crowded with many people. My wife and I began to walk in the midst of the people. When suddenly I heard a voice said,

“Eddie Smatt! Eddie!”

I turned and there stood in front of me was a tall, slim security guard.

“Eddie Smatt, how are you?”

I did not recognize him at first.

“Eddie, don’t you remember me?”

“No, I said,” in a low voice.

“Eddie, remember, Orlando Junior College. We attended the same school and I played basketball for Orlando Junior College. Remember, you were surrounded by the  angry basketball players. I was the one, whom told them to leave you alone!”

“After Orlando Junior College, I attended Florida Technical University. I was very unhappy with my life. One day I got so low on with my feelings that I contemplated taking my life but I remembered you, your faith in Jesus, and your smiling face. I remembered what you said, that if ever a time came that you feel like giving up, just get on your knees and ask Jesus to come into your heart. He will come in and restore your faith and hope.

Eddie, I did just that, I asked Jesus to come into my life, changed me, give me hope and he did.

Eddie, I asked God to give me a chance to meet you and to thank you for reminding me, the reason for living. Thank you so much!”

We had a few more words and he left with the peace of God in his heart!

Dear friends, whenever you come upon a rock and a hard place,  First, make sure you have all the facts and proof, then always do the right thing, pray for God's wisdom, trust in God for his deliverance, make a positive decision and you will receive a blessing.

If you have not yet accepted Jesus, come to Jesus now! Pray this prayer, dear Lord Jesus, forgive me of my sins, I repent, and come into my heart, right now, in Jesus name, amen.

Love,
Eddie

"Honey ,can we go some where?"

"Honey,Can We Go Some Where?"

He took Peter, John, and James, and went up into a mountain to pray. And as he prayed, the fashion of his countenance was altered, and his raiment was white and glistering…they saw his glory. (Luke 9:28-29)

“Honey, can we go somewhere?” I have heard this so many times in my married life! Ha, my response,” Why, we have no money!” Ha!

Dog house!

Well in this passage, Jesus took his disciples away to have an encounter with God.

There are times in our lives where we have to get away and seek God.

So today, if you are feeling a bit weary, just find a place, get away and spend time with God.

It’s there, where you will find your answers and strength to face the world.

Love,

Eddie

Riches,Poverty and Chrisitianity

Riches ,Poverty and Chrisitanity

What does riches, poverty and chrisitanity have in common?

Have you ever been out of work! The feelings of desperation, and fear is very real. today! TODAY.so many people out of work and poverty is on the rise.

It happened to my family and myself a few years back. The church that  I was on as a staff person had to cut me because they had no money in the buget to pay me.So just like that I found myself on the food stamp line. I remembered that when I finally got to the top of the line I showed the lady my application and she said,"Sorry you filled it out wrong, you have to go back to the end of the line and redo it all over again." Man what a bummer.

Acts 3:1-11-  We will see a miracle in the mist of the rich and poor. In this bible passage we will see God working a miracle in a cripple man needs!

Peter and John were poor and so was the cripple man! There was a difference,

The cripple man was expecting to receive money to satisfy his earthly needs but in In verse 6, Peter said, “Silver and gold I do not have but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.”

I believe, we need money to live but to really live, all we need is Jesus!

This man is a picture of a lost person:

·     Born lame- all are born sinners

·     Could not walk-no goal for living

·     Searching for satisfaction

Money will buy you: a bed but not sleep, food but not appetite, books but not brains, makeup but not beauty, amusements but not happiness and even religion but not salvation.

The only thing that brings happiness in life knowing Jesus as your personal Lord and Saviour

What riches, poverty and Christianity have in common is a need. Only Jesus can fill that need!

God loves you very much! He can fill that need! Ask Jesus today to come into your heart and he will meet your needs!

Love,

Eddie

The Retreat

Matthew 14:23

“He went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone.”

Have you ever been to the mountains? Came away with a sense of awe! I have especially in a mountain called the “Blue Mountains” in Kingston, Jamaica W.I

This mountain so majestic, graceful and peaceful it  is a great place to have a retreat and encounter with God, a deep experience with God!

The church that I attended in Kingston, Jamaica W.I was Grace Missionary Church and they had a retreat deep in these mountains.

It was here, in the summer of the nineteen sixty nine, that I was radically changed!

I accepted Christ into my heart two years prior but I never lived for Jesus.

The theme was making Jesus the Lord of our lives. It was here in the cool, crisp mountain, that I made Jesus the Lord of my life. Galatians 2:20

The song of the retreat is "Happines is to know the Saviour."

Happines is to know the Saviour, living a life within his favor, having a change in my behavior.

Happines is the lord.

Happines is a new creation , Jesus and Me in close relation, having a change in my behavior

Happines is the lord.

Real joy is mine no matter if the tear drops I have found the secret it's Jesus in my heart.

Happines is to be forgiven, livin a life that worth the livin take a trip that leads to heaven.

Happines is the lord!

Dear friends,  are you happy today.Happines is not only to accept Jesus into your heart but also to allow Him to be the Lord of your life.

Love,

Eddie
