Helping the Senior Ciizens in our Churches?

Helping the Senior Citizens in our Churches?

Acts Chapter 4: 32-36

The show, the Walton’s, took place during The Great Depression in the 1930’s. This show explained how people struggled to make ends meet, & how they came together, and met the community’s needs.

What is the greatest need facing the churches today? Is it the aging population? If so, what type of culture do we, as a church, need to change in order to meet this need?

Another big question,” Are we focusing on the needs of the growing, aging population within the local church?

I believe we are experiencing a serious historical time of Biblical proportions, what is it? I believe it is the hurting, aging Christians, whom are facing enormous spiritual, physical, emotional and financial needs.

My question, what are we doing to meet these needs?

“Huh! Why, Eddie we have programs to …..”

My friends, the facts, we have so many aging hurting senior citizens today and we have very little helps.

  “What do you mean?”

   “What is your point?”

The point is that there are so many people growing older, needing assistance in different areas and unless you have big money to pay for these needs the aged simply fall through cracks and die!!!!!!!!!

In   Acts chapter 4 verses 32-36 we see there were needs, within the church, the members stepped up to the plate and met the people needs.

1.       They had one heart and soul which means they were unified and had heart!

2.       They were not selfish!

3.       They shared what they had!

4.       God bless them in abundance

5.       They brought it to the church.

6.       Thy then distribute to the needy people within the congregation.

7.       The people were encouraged

8.       The church continued to grow

Today, we have an aging population that needs all sorts of ministries, like companionship, grocery shopping….. Many senior citizens do not have sufficient funds to pay a company to assist them. Also, many families today are in dire shape to assist their loved ones.

I have heard it said by church members, “We don’t have the funds, or the means to provide ministry to help the aging population!”

My questions are, why not? And what can we do? I believe that failure as a church, to address these issues is not an option. I believe, also we can meet these needs by developing ministries to the aging as practiced in the Book of Acts which are: having unity, sharing what we have, doing acts of kindness, caring and giving.

Dear friends, I believe we have a great, grievous, financial, aging, member crisis in our churches that are hurting. We must! As churches step up to the plate; provide funds, and ministries to meet those needs! Or we will have lost our salt to reach people for Christ!

God Bless.

Love,

Eddie
